Employment expert John Challenger, of Chicago-based outplacement firm Challenger, Gray, & Christmas, says unemployed dads will appreciate Fathers Day gifts that will help them land a job.
That includes a subscription to the Wall Street Journal, a BlackBerry so he can schedule interviews and take calls from prospective employers, or a good car wash and shoe shine so he can look clean-cut and professional while pounding the pavement for work.
If youd rather make a Fathers Day gift, Challenger suggests gathering clippings from employment websites and classified ads and binding them into a handy job reference book for Dad.
You can also take over Dads household chores so he has more time to search for jobs, and even help him post his resume on a job board, MySpace, or Facebook webpage.
Finally, Challenger says that a good incentive to keep Dad encouraged during the hunt is to promise him a giant hug every time he completes a job interview.
