In NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Dietzen plays Jimmy Palmer, an Assistant Medical Examiner who performs autopsies on bodies after mysterious deaths.
While the bodies on the set are fake, the training Dietzen has gotten for the show is very real.
He goes down to the L.A. County Coroners several times a season to sit-in on autopsies and get updates from professionals in the body biz.
Dietzen says, Everything about it is intense the sights, the scents, the procedures. The Coroners is a lot different than the nice, clean set where we pretend to do autopsies!
Still, when hes doing an on-screen procedure, he gets a little grossed out.
He explains, I recall the things I saw at the Coroners and it becomes so real.
Dietzens autopsy knowledge is giving him a leg up when he watches other procedural dramas on TV.
He says, I always start calling out the next thing the examiners should do. Im like, They better check those potassium levels!
NCIS airs Tuesdays on CBS.
