Strange Names Find A Happy Home

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If your name is stranger than “Doby Chrotchtangle,” one website would like a word with you.

For more than 20 years, a Washington D.C.-based journalist who goes by S.T.W. has been compiling outrageous names of real life people on his site,

The site includes more than 2,500 names like “Assumption Bulltron,” “Honka Monka,” “Nimrod Weiselfish,” and the 2007 “Name of the Year” winner: “Vanilla Dong.”

The idea began in the mid-80s with a bunch of college buddies sharing names, but 20 years later, it’s not only a time- waster, but a serious business.

S.T.W. explains, “People love it, but it’s still just a bunch of buddies having fun. We’re not making fun of anybody, but names are fascinating. It’s a sociological study.”

Most of the outrageous entries come from newspapers and magazines, and S.T.W. admits, “I’m looking for strange ones everywhere I go. It’s an occupational hazard.”

And even with hilarious monikers like “Tanqueray Beavers,” “Dick Wimpy,” or “Fantisha Singletart,” S.T.W. isn’t worried about ever running out of crazy names for his blog.

He says, “They get more ridiculous year after year.”
