Steve Carell Shows Ricky Gervais Who’s The Boss Of ‘The Office’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – British actor Ricky Gervais may have created The Office, but series star Steve Carell insists he’s the real boss.

Carell – who plays socially awkward boss Michael Scott in the American version of the series based off Gervais’ British Office – says he can’t stand being around Gervais because there’s a lot of “awkward tension” between them due to the success of the American Office.

Carell jokes, “[Ricky] is very scary. He’s a very intimidating human being and none of us [the cast of The Office] like him very much, and he doesn’t like us either. There’s an awkwardness. You can cut the tension with a knife.”

And next to Gervais, Carell doesn’t just consider himself the boss of The Office, he’s the boss of the bathroom too.

He says, “I actually saw Ricky in the men’s room once and I swear to God, he leaned over the urinal, looked at me, and said, ‘I knew it!’”

But despite the tension between them, Carell insists he’ll continue to take cues from Gervais, and will even do an American version of Gervais’ show Extras.

He jokes, “Whatever Ricky does next, I will follow. I will follow Ricky’s entire career.”
