Tony Shalhoub: ‘I’m Not OCD, But I’m Approaching It’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – For Monk star Tony Shalhoub, art is slowly beginning to imitate life.

On the USA Network’s comedy-drama series Monk, Shalhoub plays private detective Adrian Monk, who suffers from a severe case of Obsessive Compulsive Order, and in real life, Monk’s OCD is slowly creeping into Shalhoub’s everyday habits.

Shalhoub says, “I’m not totally OCD, but my friends and family would tell you that I’m approaching it. I have tendencies like everyone else, but I just do them a little more often. I like straightening things up on a desk and being organized. I think it’s just because I like order and the world is a disorderly place. But you can’t drive yourself nuts trying to make everything perfect.”

Still, Shalhoub gets most of his OCD out on the set of Monk rather than at home.

He explains, “When I do Monk it helps me uncork my OCD. I get to release and react to every impulse I have, and it’s really fun to be able to let that out.”

Monk continues its sixth season tonight (Jan. 11) on USA Network.
