Mandel best known for his revered shows St. Elsewhere and Bobbys World says when the stakes are high for contestants on Deal Or No Deal he just wants to scream Deal! and get the torture over with.
He explains, The hardest part about hosting the show is having to restrain myself from making the decision for a contestant. Im there, three feet away from a person who has told me their hopes, dreams, and what they could accomplish if they won $1 million, and theres a huge $200,000 offer on the table if they stop. And Im thinking, Its not worth losing everything, just take the offer! It could change your life!
And although Mandel sometimes wants contestants to play it safe so they can go home with some cash, he understands why many players hold out for the coveted million-dollar suitcase.
Mandel says, I get the idea of going for it, of beating the odds, because thats exactly how I broke into showbiz. I went for it and got really lucky. But its just so devastating when a contestant loses everything on stage I feel so bad at that point.
