LaBelle best known for her smash hit Lady Marmalade is one of five celebrities creating a professional choir out of 20 amateur singers for NBCs mini reality competition Clash of the Choirs.
And LaBelles strategy to beating her celebrity competition, which includes crooners Michael Bolton, Nick Lachey, Kelly Rowland, and Blake Shelton, is to simply scare her choir into tune.
LaBelle says, Im trying to scare my singers into perfection. To sing in a choir they have to sing with passion, and be loud and in key. So I keep telling them theyve gotta sing like a white woman getting her purse stolen by a black man! I want to hear all of them!
And while LaBelle is praying she wins the competition, she has a feeling her old friend and collaborator Michael Bolton is going to be a tough act to beat.
She says, Im sure Michael has a fierce choir, because hes a fierce man. Im serious, honey!
Clash of the Choirs premieres live, December 17 on NBC.
