Patti LaBelle Scares Choir Into Singing Well

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Soul songstress Patti LaBelle is using some scare tactics to fine-tune a group of amateur singers.

LaBelle – best known for her smash hit “Lady Marmalade” – is one of five celebrities creating a professional choir out of 20 amateur singers for NBC’s mini reality competition Clash of the Choirs.

And LaBelle’s strategy to beating her celebrity competition, which includes crooners Michael Bolton, Nick Lachey, Kelly Rowland, and Blake Shelton, is to simply “scare” her choir into tune.

LaBelle says, “I’m trying to scare my singers into perfection. To sing in a choir they have to sing with passion, and be loud and in key. So I keep telling them they’ve gotta sing like a white woman getting her purse stolen by a black man! I want to hear all of them!”

And while LaBelle is praying she wins the competition, she has a feeling her old friend and collaborator Michael Bolton is going to be a tough act to beat.

She says, “I’m sure Michael has a fierce choir, because he’s a fierce man. I’m serious, honey!”

Clash of the Choirs premieres live, December 17 on NBC.
