Original ‘Dreamgirl’ Dreams Of A Soulful Christmas

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actress Sheryl Lee Ralph has a lot of soul when it comes to celebrating Christmas.

Ralph – who played Deena Jones in the original Dreamgirls Broadway musical – is hosting PBS’ L.A. Holiday Celebration 2007 airing on Monday (Dec. 10), a multi-cultural music and dance holiday special, and she can’t wait to get into the holiday spirit herself – starting with some major home decorating.

Ralph says, “I love decorating my house and going all out for Christmas. I start decorating the day after Thanksgiving.”

Ralph’s favorite holiday tradition is putting up a “soul tree” with her family, which is a Christmas tree trimmed with pictures of influential African Americans that have “truly made a difference” in history.

She explains, “We make special ornaments and pick out all the pictures for the tree, and it always looks beautiful. It’s definitely our souuuuul tree!”

And hosting the L.A. Holiday Celebration makes Ralph’s Christmas even merrier.

She adds, “The lights and music remind me of the reason for the season. Christmas gives people hope, even if it’s just for one day.”
