‘American Idol’ Helps Improve Katharine McPhee’s Memory

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Being a singer and an American Idol alumna is helping Katharine McPhee break into acting.

McPhee – who’s developed a solo singing career since her American Idol finalist days in 2006 – will be acting in two upcoming films, I Know What Boys Like and The Last Caller, and the brunette beauty is loving the transition to the silver screen.

McPhee says, “Acting is great. I’m happy to have a shot at it. Movie sets are like a big family!”

And although McPhee describes acting as a “much different experience than performing live,” she’s using the tricks she learned on American Idol and her singer skills to tackle her movie scripts.

She explains, “I’m learning my lines pretty fast. I think the good thing about coming from American Idol and being a singer is having to learn lyrics for performances in a really short amount of time. It’s helped my memory, so my acting lines come pretty easily to me.”

And as far as camera fright goes, McPhee’s not too scared of the lens.

She adds, “So far from my acting experience I’ve been pretty calm on set. I think I get more singing fright than anything else!”

McPhee’s debut film, I Know What Boys Like, is slated for release in August 2008.
