Former Wrestler Chris Jericho Scares Japanese Fans

TAMPA, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Even out of the wrestling ring, WWE superstar Chris Jericho maintained his intimidating persona – especially around his Japanese fans.

Before hitting it big with the WWE, Jericho – who’s the first ever WWE Undisputed Champion and a seven-time Intercontinental Champion – was a villainous wrestler in Japan and says he loved scaring his loyal overseas followers.

Says Jericho: “My Japanese fans were – and still are – very respectful, die-hard fans. They really want to believe in the wrestling characters and storylines. I used to love staying in character when I met Japanese fans on the streets because I’d scare and intimidate them until they ran away screaming. They’d act like they were running away from Godzilla!

And while Jericho insists his tough wrestling persona was just an act and “extreme, schizophrenic extension” of his personality, he admits scaring the hell out of his fans was somewhat soothing for him.

Jericho adds, “If I was in a bad mood, it was kind of fun to yell at them and play along as Chris Jericho. I could just shoot them a crazy look and they’d be so afraid. I’d feel a little better afterwards.”

For more on Jericho’s life and career, check out his new biography, A Lion’s Tale: Around the World in Spandex (Grand Central), which hits shelves today (Oct. 25).
