Wilmer Valderrama Schools His Momma

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Wilmer Valderrama has heard every “yo momma” joke in the book, but when it came to explaining the mom romps to his own momma, it was no laughing matter.

Valderrama – who referees verbal smackdowns in cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Atlanta, on MTV’s Yo Momma – had to explain the origins of “yo momma” jokes to his own mom before she could really understand the humor behind his show.

Valderrama says, “I had to explain to my mom that here in the United States, there is this phenomenon on the streets where you tell ‘yo momma’ jokes. I told her they’re not really meant to be mean, but they’re meant to be funny, and that they’re not really about her.”

But Valderrama admits the concept of mom jokes was sometimes lost in translation, since his mom is from Venezuela, where people don’t generally badmouth mommas.

He says, “In Latin culture you don’t talk about your mom, ever. That’s what gets people shot!”

Still, Valderrama’s mom has been able to catch on to the “yo momma” slang, which makes her son proud.

Valderrama adds, “Now my mom gets it and she finds the show so hilarious. She’s like, ‘Oh my God Wilmer, I get it, she’s fat like a whale. Ha, ha!”’
