Adventurous Author Explores America’s Strangest Places

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Cockfighters, wild boar hunters, and polygamists are the creepy cream of America’s crop.

At least that’s what adventurous author Harmon Leon learned when he went on a cross-country roadtrip into the “diseased underbelly of America” to research for his book, National Lampoon’s Road Trip USA (National Lampoon), where he explores the scariest, strangest, and funniest places that National Lampoon’s first family, The Griswolds, should’ve visited during their road trips.

But while cockfighting hicks in Louisiana and wild boar hunters in Florida were enough to shock Leon, it was the polygamists in Utah that truly creeped him out.

Says Leon: “The polygamy town I visited was by far the weirdest thing I experienced. There were tons of women that looked exactly like the twins from The Shining, and like 90 guys that were married to all of them. Everyone hated us because we were outsiders – it was insane!”

And as Leon’s trip continued, he experienced the real underbelly of America by eating horrible food and staying in downright dirty motels.

He jokes, “At every nasty, low-budget motel I stayed, I felt like I was being trained to play amateur forensics!”
