Thats the news from Lauer, who interviewed the Princes for the first time ever on American television on Dateline NBC last Monday (June 18), and admits getting the coveted interview with the royals was a tough mission fit for a king.
Says Lauer: I had to go through so many people to get to William and Harry, it was crazy. I really jumped through hoops to get my time with them, but it was completely worth it.
Still, Lauer admits the road to the royal interview felt like he was auditioning for the first time to become a broadcast journalist.
Lauer explains, I actually sent over tapes of my interviews from the last five years that Ive done with high-profile politicians until they finally agreed to let me talk to the Princes. I felt like a rookie but it all worked out and they were really terrific guys.
Lauer hopes to reunite with the charming Princes when he hosts Concert For Diana, a London-based NBC music special that will honor the life of the late Princess Diana Of Wales airing this Sunday (July 1), on the day that woudve been her 46th birthday.
