William Shatner Navigates The Racetrack

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – William Shatner is learning to “live long and prosper” – on the NASCAR racetrack that is.

That’s because Shatner is one of the celebs with a need for speed on ABC’s Fast Cars & Superstars: Gillette Young Guns Celebrity Race premiering this Thursday (June 7).

The speedy showdown pairs 12 stars with pro NASCAR racers who prepare the celebs to race against one another in pro stock cars.

But while Shatner had driving experience behind the wheel of the massive U.S.S. Enterprise on Star Trek, his trekkie training didn’t exactly prepare Captain Kirk for the racetrack.

Says Shatner: “There’s tons of centrifugal force in the driver’s seat of a stock car, but none in the Captain’s chair! I was frightened to death during the races, but I felt so alive, it was incredible!”

Although Shatner became comfortable behind the wheel, he admits pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk gave him a run for his money on the speedway during Fast Cars.

He explains, “His hand-eye coordination was superb so I had to find ways to retaliate. The better Tony and the other guys got at racing, the more stupidity I had to bring forth. My stupidity and erratic behavior were my intimidation tactics!”
