Treat Williams Has The Stomach To Be A Doctor

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Actor Treat Williams plays an organ-transplant surgeon on the upcoming series Heartland, and he’s got the stomach – and brains – to get the job done.

Williams – best known for his role as the dashing doctor on Everwood – says after all these years of playing a TV doc, he doesn’t mind dealing with the blood, guts, and jargon of an on-screen hospital.

Says Williams: “Watching the prop guys make the organs and blood as realistic as possible for scenes has made me really comfortable around gore. Come to think of it, I never really get nauseous during surgery takes. I’ve got a strong stomach.”

But just having the stomach to be a studly surgeon doesn’t always cut it for Williams in the operating room – he has to use his brains too.

Williams explains, “I’m always brushing up on my medical jargon and knowledge of procedures so I actually know what I’m talking about on Heartland. I took Latin in prep-school, which makes the medical terms a little easier to understand, but I still have a rule that for every new medical word on the script, there should be an explanation of what it means right next to it. It’s like a biology class every day.”

Heartland premieres on TNT June 18.
