Apolo Anton Ohno Not Skating Through Dancing Competition

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Olympic speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno is a hot shot on the ice, but he’s definitely not skating through the competition on Dancing With The Stars.

Ohno – who has won five Olympic medals – says learning to dance has been “extremely difficult,” and admits his fancy footwork on the ice hasn’t been much help on the dance floor.

Says Ohno: “The steps and ways you move your feet and body are so different than anything I’m used to. The timing is also different in dancing than in speed skating so I’m trying to catch on.”

Although dancing has been challenging, Ohno is happy to train since the intense physical activity helps him stay conditioned as an athlete.

He adds, “I’m exercising a whole new set of muscles I never knew I had and my feet have never been so sore! I’m no dancer yet, but I will be soon!”

Ohno has already learned the cha-cha from his partner Julianne Hough, but admits it’s been a little awkward working so closely with her.

Says Ohno: “There is absolutely no contact with anyone in speed skating, but, in dancing, Julianne and I are so close, we’re almost the same person. It’s still weird when she tells me to touch her leg.”

Dancing With The Stars airs Mondays.
