Helen Mirren Wants Homeland To Sod Off

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Helen Mirren’s mantle is filling up fast with awards – but none from her homeland.

The British actress has won two SAG awards and two Golden Globes for her work in both Elizabeth I and The Queen, but she says the British media has barely blinked an eye when it comes to her performances.

Mirren admits she’s sad that she and her costars weren’t recognized in Britain for their hard work on the TV movie Elizabeth I, or appreciated the homage to Britain’s past.

However, Mirren has no ill feelings towards the biggest Brit of all, Queen Elizabeth herself.

Says Mirren: “When I did my costume fitting for The Queen, I walked in and saw those sensible shoes, and those tweed skirts laid out in a row, and I cried...I thought, I can’t play anyone who chooses to wear those clothes, I just can’t do it.”

Still, Mirren says she “....learned to love the person who chooses to wear those clothes” because, as she puts it, “I learned to love a person without vanity but with a great sense of discipline that I understand, with a great sense of duty that I understand and with a great deal of courage and that I understand.”
