Reindeer Roasting Over An Open Fire

OSLO, Norway (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some people like chestnuts roasting on an open fire but a Scandanavian woman prefers reindeer.

Her name is Laila Spik and she’s on a one-woman crusade to make reindeer the next big trend in health food with a new book, How To Cook A Reindeer (

Spik says reindeer meat is leaner and healthier than pork or beef because they roam over a large area and eat a wide variety of food, depending on the season.

As a result, Dasher, Dancer and Prancer’s cousins are chock full of vitamins and minerals – more than other kinds of meat.

Spik says reindeer is best when cooked quickly, and prefers it boiled or fried. However, she is partial to reindeer tongue and the blood makes for great pancakes and dumplings.

But reindeer isn’t just for dinner anymore. She says it’s important to use all aspects of the animal, such as the leather for clothes and the antlers for knives.
