Race-Oriented ‘Survivor’ Inspiring Increase In Ethnic Jokes?

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Some people think Survivor’s emphasis on race relations this season is no laughing matter but one humor consultant thinks it could trigger increased ethnic jokes at the office.

Humor consultant Malcolm Kushner predicts the interaction between the members of the various ethnic groups will probably inspire a lot of watercooler talk – and a lot of jokes.

For instance, Kushner knows one office where co-workers crack jokes about how the white team makes the black team do all their work – while the members of the Latino team sneak extra relatives on to the island.

It sounds politically incorrect – but Kushner also sees the show as a vehicle “for talking about race relations – which is the big elephant in the room no one talks about.”

While he hopes the show stimulates discussions, he also fears it could inspire lawsuits.

As he puts it, “There’s the real world and the legal world and if people are offended, there could be a lot of lawsuits.”
