Marlon Wayans: ‘Geeks Aren’t Geeks – They’re Tastemakers’

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Folks who read comic books are often called geeks but comedian Marlon Wayans prefers the term “tastemakers.”

This Saturday (July 22), Wayans and brother Shawn will be at the San Diego Comic-Con to introduce a variety of new projects that he says are “heavily influenced by Walt Disney – but edgier.”

The projects include Thugaboo, a new cartoon special airing August 11 on Nickelodeon, and Super Bad James Dynomite, a comic book spoofing vigilante crime fighters like Shaft.

Wayans hopes the comic book community likes his work and says its fans may get stereotyped as geeks, but they are actually important tastemakers who determine the future of pop culture.

Wayans is heavily involved with both projects and even takes photographs of interesting faces for the Super Bad artists to reference while drawing the strips.
