Elmo Goes To Washington

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Elmo is probably the most popular kiddie character on the puppet-populated Sesame Street TV show – but he’s temporarily looking for a new address in Washington, D.C.

The furry red mega-muppet-star is one of the headliners for A Capitol Fourth, the annual July 4th concert at the Washington Mall, along with Jason Alexander, Vanessa Williams and Lena Horne.

Elmo says he’s very happy at birthday parties, and hopes his mini-monster fur can supply enough red for the red, white and blue for America’s birthday.

As part of the show, Elmo and his human “assistant” Kevin Clash will be visiting various landmarks including the Washington Monument and the Capitol building.

He also hopes he can convince President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney to join the festivities, adding: “The more, the merrier at a party!”

Elmo says – in his usually high voice and third person style – that “Elmo is looking forward to singing” with Williams and Horne.

But the best part of the show, in Elmo’s words, is that: “Elmo gets to wear a vest, striped shirt and a bow tie – and Elmo doesn’t have to give them back since they’re all Elmo’s size.”

A Capitol Fourth airs July 4 on PBS.
