Ben Roethlisberger Two-Time Victim Of ‘Chunky Soup Curse’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger not only has a Super Bowl ring on his finger, but a curse on his head, too: The “Chunky Soup Curse.”

The curse strikes athletes who appear in ads for Campbell’s Chunky Soup and Roethlisberger became a two-time victim yesterday (Jun. 12) when he was involved in a motorcycle crash.

Sports journalist Dan Lewis – who first coined the curse back in 2002 – says “souper” curse has negatively affected the careers of Terrell Davis, Kurt Warner and Donovan McNabb, as well as Roethlisberger, who suffered rib injuries in the 2004 season after signing on as a Chunky’s Soup spokesman.

Lewis also predicts a similar setback for Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who just became a Chunky’s spokesman.

A spokesman for Campbell’s was unavailable for comment about the alleged curse but historically the company has dismissed it.

Still, Lewis – who discusses the curse in detail at www.armchairgm.com – says, as a New York Giants fan, he’s hoping Eli Manning and Tiki Barber refuse to sign with Campbell’s.
