Thats according to self defense instructor Shannon Lukeman-Hiromasa, who teaches women how to defend themselves even when theyre dressed to the nines in heels and mini-skirts.
She says a chunky heel is best for defense because it provides more surface area to shove into an attackers groin, calf or shin.
On the other hand, a stiletto heel works great for gouging, though trying to kick a thug while balancing on one foot is difficult.
Lukeman-Hiromasa teaches fighting techniques for women in nice shoes, but notes: Groin kicks are harder in heels. She says its better to do them barefoot whenever possible.
For those who prefer flip-flops, Lukeman-Hiromasa warns theyre no good for fighting, but might work if you need to slap someone.
