Woman Designs Sport For Hyperactive Pooches

SEATTLE (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If your dog is running circles around you, a Seattle woman says she knows a better way to wear out the pooch.

It’s a sport called “Dog Scootering,” which creator Daphne Lewis describes as “mushing [sledding] with one or two family dogs” on dry land.

The beauty of the sport is that you get to casually cruise along on a scooter while the family dog pulls you via harness and leash. Lewis explains, “Generally once the dog pulls fast, there’s not much you can do to help.”

She says this mini-Iditarod for the suburbs is now “a really developed sport worldwide” and that almost every domesticated dog can do it.

In her words, “Any dog that has so much energy that it drives you nuts is a good candidate for Scootering. I’ve seen two miniature poodles that weighed 10 pounds each do it.”

Lewis explains the ins and outs of the sport in her new book, Dog Scooter: The Sport For Dogs Who Love To Run (Lulu).
