Artist Finds A Common Thread In Celebrity Mugshots

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Celebrity mugshots aren’t always pretty to look at, so imagine spending weeks creating five-by-six-inch versions using a needle and cotton thread.

That’s what an L.A.-based artist named Maria E. Pineres did. It took her an average of two weeks to create each needlepoint mugshot of incarcerated celebs like Jack White, Michael Jackson, Macaulay Culkin and Vince Vaughn for a New York art exhibit entitled A Rogue’s Gallery, though she admits, “I did a couple incredibly fast. Billie Joe Armstrong was really quick.”

Pineres stitched 16 celebrity mugs for the collection – available for viewing at – and some lucky dogs like Bobby Brown and Robert Downey Jr. made it in twice.

The artist admits there’s one glaring omission from the group – a frazzled James Brown – and she says that’s because, “I found myself being judgmental when it was crimes against women.”

She jokes, “For some reason drunk driving and or a bar room brawl was fine.”
