Dr. Mitchell Gaynor, who discusses Avian Flu in his book Nurture Nature, Nurture Health (Nurture Nature Press), says if youre in Asia or another outbreak area these days, clearly you could get [Avian Flu] from any bird secretion, including bird feces.
While he doesnt think everyone should wear poop deflecting hats as a special precaution, Gaynor says its important for people in infected areas to avoid poultry farms and markets and to always wash their hands after coming in contact with birds.
On the home front, Gaynor says Americans dont have to worry yet because we havent had any outbreaks, but ponders, Might there be before Thanksgiving? Maybe. I guess its possible.
Gaynor is pleased the U.S. is taking steps to work on a vaccine, but notes itll take at least nine months and that, Ironically, the vaccine is grown inside of chicken eggs.
