Folk Singer Finds The Beauty In ‘Baby Got Back’

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – For those who thought Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” was a little strong and suggestive, try to imagine it in a melodic folk version.

That’s exactly what guitarist and singer Jonathan Coulton did, and says his sensitive “folky, country, blue-eyed soul” version of the song – found on his website jonathancoulton.com – will probably surprise people.

Coulton admits he never really listened to “Baby Got Back” in the ‘90s, because, he says, “I sort of dismissed it as a juvenile song about butts.”

Only recently did he revisit the tune and put it to his own music, and he insists, “The lyrics are so awesome.”

The singer-songwriter admits his five minute and 10 second- version is “traditionally too long to be a hit” but thinks the booty song still might help him make it big.

But Coulton says if he’s asked to do a video, he won’t dance on a butt a la Sir Mix-A-Lot, explaining, “I might have to hire a body double who knows how to dance to do that.”
