Rivera has been collecting stuffed fabric Mr. T dolls handmade by moms and grandmas in the 80s since he was 17, and hes pretty sure his collection of 150 mini Ts is the largest in the world.
But it doesnt stop there. Rivera found a B.A. Baracus buddy in a former rival eBay bidder named Mike Essl, and the two eventually combined and catalogued all their T memorabilia hundreds of items ranging from Mr. T whistles and lanyards to air fresheners on a website called mrtandme.com.
The guys who both sport Mr. T tattoos are looking to feature their collection in a book and also take the dolls on the road as a Folk Art and Black Americana exhibit.
Rivera explains, Even if I wasnt a crazy Mr. T collector, Id want to show the dolls as art. Theyre made so much out of love. At the same time, youre like, Oh man. It looks like a retarded Mr. Potatohead.
