The Gods Must Be Chocolate

RHINEBECK, N.Y. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Chocolate has been called the food of the gods, and now one woman in upstate New York is making gods out of chocolate.

Jeanne Fleming is the creator of, a website where folks can buy gourmet chocolate statues of holy folks like Buddha, Lord Krishna and the Norse trickster god Loki.

Customers from all over the world order the spiritual sweets for a variety of prayerful purposes. For instance, Fleming says many Hindus make religious offerings of the chocolate gods, while midwives give the chocolate fertility goddesses to their clients.

The chocolate deities range in price from $20 to $40 and Fleming says they don’t have to be eaten – you can frame them and use them as religious portraits.

One thing Fleming’s company won’t do is make chocolates in the likeness of solemn religious figures like Jesus or gods from religions like Islam where believers think it’s wrong to create images to worship.

That would just be too “sacralicious.”
