According to Frank Stallone, Sylvester’s brother and lead auditioner for the NBC reality series, most of the aspiring boxers didn’t know how to fight.
Stallone – an ex-fighter himself – says he helped audition more than 2000 fighters from New York to California and the majority of them couldn’t even last one three-minute round.
They even had a couple oddballs show up including the man in New York who covered himself head to toe in pink – including headgear and mouthpiece – and ran around the ring without throwing a punch.
There was also the shopping cart-pushing homeless man who auditioned and “tough-looking guys who were anything but tough in the ring.”
Still, Stallone says the auditioning process was an enjoyable experience and hopes the show “sparks interest in the sport again.”
