Martha Stewart’s Poncho Pleases ‘Knit-Picky’ Crocheters

NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The inmate who made Martha Stewart’s poncho could have an “in” in the fashion industry when she finally gets out of the big house.

That’s because the “freedom poncho” made for Stewart by her Alderson prison pal, Xiomoro Hernandez, is getting raves from Lily Chin, the world’s fastest crocheter.

Chin has designed knitwear for Ralph Lauren and Vera Wang and is very “knit-picky.” Still, she says Hernandez is “extremely talented” and is impressed by the way the stitches come to a point instead of being rounded.

She’s also impressed by the texture of the yarn used by Hernandez and “applauds the woman” for creating a design that is causing the biggest impact in the crochet world since Jessica Simpson wore a knit shawl.

Hernandez is currently serving a 20-year sentence for conspiring to distribute cocaine and crack and isn’t scheduled for release until January, 2008. However, Chin is so high on her work that she plans to recommend Hernandez for a job when she’s released from the slammer.
