Harmony For Homos

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – A couple of folk music songwriters are striking a chord with homosexuals who want to get hitched.

A folk group known as Second Union has released a CD titled Songs for Equality which has tunes like “It’s About Time” and “Songs for Senators” that were written to raise awareness about same-sex marriage.

Straight songwriters Dave Bastien and Susan Van Ham say they started writing their songs the very same day Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriages.

They even gave their CD to Senator John Edwards’ wife, Elizabeth, during the presidential campaigns, and later received a thank you note from Mrs. Edwards.

While the musicians don’t get too many gays questioning how they can be straight and write songs about gay marriage, Bastien says he did tell one gay man at a pride event in Boston, “Was it only women who fought women’s rights, or blacks who fought blacks’ rights?”

He says the man backed down and then bought them a beer.
