NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Geeks are luring innocent people into a lifetime of addiction.

This Saturday (May 1) is Free Comic Book Day, when some comic book stores around America will give away more than 25 new titles and issues to geeks and newbies.

Gerry Gladston of Midtown Comics in New York City says the event is a “great jump-off point for new readers,” and hopes it leads to a whole new fleet of comic book nerds.

Every year he sees a “slew of new faces” that end up returning for more comics soon after to get their fix, leading Gladston to believe that free comics are truly a gateway drug for a dorky new addiction.

The real pros try to get them hooked young.

Gladston says lots of kids show up on Free Comic Day “thrilled” to get their hands on fun reads, which he hopes starts them off as lifelong comic readers.
