HANCOCK, Maine (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One talented Maine resident has a chainsaw for an arm.

At least that’s how Ray Murphy feels after using a chainsaw for the last 58 years to create art that seems impossible.

With no other carving tools whatsoever, Murphy has used a chainsaw to saw 17 numbers into a toothpick, the entire alphabet into a pencil, and three numbers onto a teeny mustard seed.

Where most 68-year-olds might not be able to keep a steady hand carving such small, detailed work, it’s second nature to Murphy.

He says, “The saw has become an extension of my arm. I’ve done more than 57,000 pieces. With practice, I can do some of that work in my sleep.”

Murphy displays his artwork in a gallery out of his home and performs chainsaw entertainment shows in the summer for visitors.

He adds, “I do things no one is capable of with a chainsaw. People can’t believe it when they see it.”
