Out With The Old Drive-In, In With The New

The Cactus Drive-In in Tucson, Arizona, is being built from the remains of an old demolished drive-in theater. It'll be a drive-in for the people, by the people.

TUCSON, Ariz. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When one door closes, use whatever is left over to build a whole new, way cooler door.

That’s the idea behind what will soon be the Cactus Drive-In.

After the famous De Anza Drive-In Theater in Tucson, Arizona, got the wrecking ball, a group of locals decided to take the torn-down materials and use them to make brand new drive-in.

This time, the theater will be bigger, better, and completely self-sufficient.

Charles Spillar, who’s leading the efforts, says the Cactus Drive-In is literally being “made out of the ashes” of the old theatre and will be “community based.”

That means it’ll be a non-profit completely financed and run by donations and a network of volunteers who truly believe in making it a success.

In fact, a team is currently volunteering their time freely to build the Cactus Drive-In quite literally from the ground up.
