SAN MATEO, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – It may be possible to do every little thing in life yourself.

The 5th Annual Maker Faire is coming to the Bay Area’s San Mateo County Event Center this weekend (May 22-23) to showcase anything and everything it takes to live a truly DIY life.

Every do-it-yourself discipline will be represented at the fair, including lessons in preserving lemons, soldering, silk screening, bread baking, robot building, alternative energy, and much more.

Director Sherry Huss says, “I think people will become exposed to a whole new skill set and see how it can work in their real life. People really want to learn how to do things by themselves.”

But while some resourceful folks choose to “live off the grid” and do everything themselves, Huss admits it’s “not realistic in most places.”

However, there are easy ways people can replace consuming mass-produced goods, like starting a vegetable garden instead of buying from the market.
