NEW YORK (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) The wedding world wants fresh ideas from amateur fashionistas. The June issue of BRIDES on stands May 11 is urging newbie designers to create original wedding gowns for their Operation Dream Dress Contest.
From May 11 through June 7, designers are invited to submit sketches of wedding gowns on operationdreamdress.com.
The winning gown, chosen by editors and a public vote will be featured on the December 2010 cover of BRIDES and be sold nationwide by Davids Bridal. The designer will also win $10,000.
BRIDES editor-in-chief Millie Martini Bratten says designs should illustrate the theme Cutting-Edge Classic, incorporating both tradition and modernity into a dress that real brides could actually wear.
Bratten says the latest bridal gown trends include light, soft fabrics and lots of texture like ruffles, draping, and rosettes.
Many designers are looking for new ways to wear sleeves on bridal gowns and even taking up the hem.
