SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – In 40 years, things are going to look a lot different, both in a good and bad way.

Galeria de la Raza in San Francisco asked artists to take the things people interact with in their regular life and re-imagine what they’ll be like in 40 years for the upcoming exhibition, Mad World: Message To The Future, opening Saturday (May 8).

Everyday objects being aged four decades by artists include the “National Anthem,” played by homeless, immigrant street performers. The result was a tune that sounds like the “Star-Spangled Banner” but with the words somewhat jumbled.

Another artist took pages from a current Almanac and updated it to show how it might be in the future.

Associate curator Raquel de Anda says the renderings show that “there is still hope” for the coming generations, but there’s an undercurrent of “bleakness” that seems to run throughout the pieces.
