LONDON (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – When it comes to patriotic spirit, England really doesn’t have much.

According to a study by This England magazine, England is the least patriotic nation in Europe, with many citizens refusing to fly their country’s flag.

Although St. George’s Day is this Friday (Apr. 23), only one in three English citizens were aware of the holiday and 40 percent aren’t sure why St. George is their patron saint to begin with.

Out of a possible 10 points on a patriotism scale, the average Englishman or woman only scored 5.8, probably because 40 percent of citizens feel like England has completely lost its national identity.

In fact, many folks only feel patriotic when they attend a big sporting event like the World Cup.

On the bright side, the Dutch emerged as the most patriotic bunch in Europe, followed by the Scots and the Welsh. The Irish are the UK nation most likely to display their national flag.
