PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – After 46 years away from home, G.I. JOE is making quite the re-entrance.

Today (Apr. 30), at exactly 10 AM EDT, 300 G.I. JOE parachute figures will be launched inside the Rhode Island State House.

The stunt will kick off the 17th Annual International G.I. Joe Collectors’ Convention, which runs all weekend (May 1-2) for devoted fans of the Real American Hero.

Hasbro’s Jeff Labovitz says this year’s Convention is extra special because it’s a “homecoming” for G.I. JOE, who was originally developed in Rhode Island in 1964.

Due to the momentous occasion, the parachute drop will be hosted by Rhode Island Governor Donald L. Carcieri, who’ll declare it “G.I. JOE Day” in the icon’s homestate.

Labovitz says the drop is a real thrill for fans, who’ve been launching the figures since they were kids.

True pros go for the “flick of the elbow” technique, which gives the parachute just enough time to open up.
