Comic Lives Vicariously Through Catalogs

Ever wonder what the people are like who live inside fancy home furnishings catalogs? One woman has a hunch.

LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – One comedienne lives – and laughs – vicariously through fancy home furnishings catalogs.

After getting West Elm, Pottery Barn, and Ethan Allen catalogs in her mailbox for years, Molly Erdman started catalogliving.tumblr.com, a blog chronicling the strangest set- ups found in interior decorating publications.

Erdman writes captions imagining what life would be like for a cookie-cutter couple living in the picture-perfect worlds and how they’d explain the ridiculous decor around them.

For instance, an image of an immaculate bedroom with a tree branch in the corner notes: “It broke through the wall during the last big storm and we just decided to leave it.”

Erdman thinks her snarky commentary takes fancy furnishings “down a peg” because nobody could really live in homes that perfect.

She says silly recurring themes in catalogs include random balls of twine, bowls of starfish, and pretentious stacks of books everywhere to make the residents look smart.
