People Dump The Darndest Things

SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The local dump is a gold mine.

People throw out the darndest things, and artists that are part of the San Francisco Dump Artist In Residence Program at the Recology recycling and disposal center take full advantage.

Every year, seven artists are given a shopping cart and four months to comb through a garbage pile, as well as a studio space where they can create original artwork using the junk they’ve found.

Spokesperson Deborah Munk says current artists participating have found everything from jewelry and furniture to a “scary” animated Santa Claus.

One artist’s jaw dropped when he discovered a photograph of his own wife from years ago while digging through the rubble.

They’ll show off what they’ve made out of trash this Friday (May 14) through Saturday (May 15) at a local dump, where attendees can see interactive sculptures, like one made of car parts that can grill hamburgers.
