Mermaid Show Travels, Keeps Myth Alive
Fishy Fact: Mermaids are real.
Thursday, July 8, 2010 1:08 GMT
WEEKI WACHEE, Fla. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) Mermaids are real, and one traveling show is proving that fishy fact. The Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Florida is famous for their mermaid show, where women dressed as mermaids perform for crowds and keep the myth alive in mermaid lore.
The girls are taking their show on the road to Ripleys Aquarium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, July 23-25, where spokesperson John Athanason says his finned beauties will swim with sea creatures and wow audiences with their mere presence.
He believes its important for the Weeki Wachee aqua babes to let people know that mermaids really do exist and keep that fantasy alive for little girls.
To do so, they will be swimming amongst real sharks and stingrays in the aquariums tanks.
It wont be such a big deal for the mermaids, though, since theyre used to swimming with alligators and manatees back at their usual post at Weeki Wachee Springs.
