SAN DIEGO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) Committing ant genocide for the sake of art is very hard on the soul. That was the case for artist Chris Trueman, whos exhibiting a portrait he made out of the bodies of 200,000 dead ants at the Alexander Salazar Gallery in San Diego now through Friday (May 28).
Gallery owner Alexander Salazar says the piece was a huge challenge for the artist, who felt a great deal of hurt about having to murder so many innocent ants.
Salazar explains, It devastated him that he had to kill so many ants. It took years to complete because he had to build up the courage to do it.
Trueman ordered live ants in bulk from the Internet and found that the most humane way to kill them was gassing them with poison.
It was still very difficult and traumatizing, so Trueman has decided to never make an ant art piece ever again.
