PLACERVILLE, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – If you’re taking a vacation with your dog this summer, Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is the cat’s meow.

According to Len Kain, founder of pet travel guide DogFriendly.com, Cape Cod is the No. 1 resort region for dogs in the U.S. thanks to so many pet-friendly amenities.

Kain says the East Coast area – including neighboring Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard – offers a plethora of dog-friendly beaches, parks, and ferries that allow pooches onboard.

Other dog-friendly places include Black Hills, South Dakota, and St. Augustine, Florida, which boast lots of doggy dining and shopping.

The Otay Ranch Town Center shopping mall in San Diego even has its own dog park to make pups feel right at home.

Kain says dog-friendly travel is growing vastly as a niche market, with more focus on hotels, restaurants, and malls where Fido is welcome.

Internationally, Kain says the best spot for Spot is France, where dogs are allowed everywhere.
