LITCHFIELD, Conn. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – With airline luggage fees skyrocketing, travelers should know their baggage options.

Luke Dudley – who was once slapped with a $300 fee for his bags on a flight from London to Sydney – has created a new universal baggage calculator on luggagelimits.com that informs travelers of the ever-changing baggage fees and policies across more than 170 airlines.

By typing in an airline along with departure and arrival airports, the “widget” – available for free download to any website – will display crucial info including the number of free bags permitted on a flight and fees for excess luggage.

Dudley says his tool allows people to factor in extra costs before booking flights so there are no surprises upon boarding.

Just like folks compare and contrast airfare prices, they should be able to rate which airlines provide better baggage value.

Although fees vary depending on where someone travels from, Dudley says Southwest Airlines’ baggage allowance “can’t be beat” for American flights.
