LOS ANGELES (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Being happy – and therefore healthy – is incredibly simple.

So says Dr. Ian Smith, counselor to the chubby stars on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club, who’s just penned Happy, Simple Steps To Get The Most Out Of Life (St. Martin’s).

Smith says finding true happiness in life is the key to losing weight and getting healthy.

He’s found that small, simple things are scientifically proven to increase happiness in people, such as doing five random acts of kindness for others each week.

Also good for your health: Writing “Thank You” letters and hand-delivering them, keeping a journal of what your grateful for, and forgiving someone and then doing them a favor.

Smith says finding time for laid-back things like reading, walking, and gardening will also boost one’s spirit in this fast-paced, cluttered world.

The TV doc thinks Americans should take a cue from the Danish who are considered, quite simply, the happiest people on Earth.
