SAN FRANCISCO (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – The phrase “putting pedal to the metal” has never rang so true.

The Bicycle Music Festival is bringing pedal power to the people at San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park on July 31, where live bands will be performing on a stage completely powered by bikes.

People ride bicycles rigged to the side of a special stage and their pedaling powers all of the electric equipment including lights and amps.

Organizer Paul Freedman says they’ll rely on the general public to power most of the party, though his team will also help.

He figures that once people see how their contribution helps the concert, they’ll be happy to partake and give other riders a break.

Luckily for Freedman, there’s never a lack of volunteers, unlike the time he took his bike-powered stage to a high school dance.

He says the kids lost interest in pedaling once everyone started “freaking each other” on the dance floor. Without manpower, the music stopped shortly thereafter.
