HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) – Not many people can say they’ve gotten drunk with Rod Stewart in a closet.

But pop culture historian Chris Epting can.

He’s just penned Hello, It’s Me: Dispatches From A Pop Culture Junkie (Santa Monica Press), a book about all the weird run-ins he’s had with celebrities.

Epting says one of the most bizarre ones was when he got drunk in a closet with Rod Stewart and Ron Wood at the 1984 MTV Video Music Awards after sneaking a bottle of whiskey from host Bette Midler’s dressing room.

Other times, he found himself jumping on a trampoline with Sally Struthers and having Michael Jordan sign his son’s birth announcement.

But the moment Epting really got hooked on pop culture happened at age 11, when he was visiting L.A. and ran smack-dab into Alfred Hitchcock’s stomach.

The famed director marched Epting to his parents and yelled at him, making him realize that celebrities are just like everyone else.
