PLEASANT GROVE, Utah (Wireless Flash - FlashNews) If youre looking for a way to make extra cash in this economy, selling your hair certainly makes the cut.Marlys Fladeland runs a hair classifieds section on hairwork.com where folks can post personal ads selling their locks.
Fladeland says hair of all styles, textures, and colors is typically bought by people in the beauty industry who use it to make extensions and wigs.
Interestingly enough, crafters are also big buyers because they use hair in embroidery, pottery-making, and to create intricate Victorian jewelry like brooches.
With the high demand, sellers can make a pretty penny off their tresses, especially the most coveted type: Long, straight hair thats never been dyed.
Red hair, because its so rare, also sells well, and Fladeland says some moms even hawk their kids manes.
The biggest sale to date in the classifieds section was 32 inches of straight, healthy hair that sold for a whopping $3,800.
